You know, after firing my boss, and exiting the corporate world after 15 years, and after surviving cancer, I was really clear that I was ready to retire my pantyhose forever, and never again dance on a client’s conference room table to get the order.

So for me, finding a great home based business was the corporate alternative. My goal was to work when I wanted to work…retake control of my time and of my livelihood, and not put the control in someone else’s hands who determined just how much income I could earn and what I was worth.

I did it! I am running a robust business in my jogging shorts, having just come off the beach for my morning run/walk. I earn a hefty five-figure per month income, am associated with an outstanding company, and have totally retaken control of my life and livelihood.

If you are like me and are searching for your next career move, and the rat race of corporate America is old, old, old (!), then here are a few points in making the jump to becoming a home based executive and choosing the proper virtual business to make you fulfilled, successful, and wealthy:

1.	Find a home based business with products and programs that you can believe in.
Nothing beats the energy that flows throughout your conversations with others when you love, love, love your company and its purpose in the world. Emotions are contagious, don’t forget, and your passion, clarity, and focus will communicate volumes in between your words. So have total belief in your products, programs, and company; and know that what you have will benefit the customer and the world. Period.

2.	Be sure the products are high quality, in demand, sell for upwards of $200, and offer high commissions.
After all, it takes the same energy to make a sale for a $50 product, as a $1000 product — the same process, the same thoughtful consideration on the part of the customer or potential associate.
If you can make a good profit from selling products at a higher price, it allows you to earn money faster than selling low priced items with smaller profits. It is important that these products are worth the high price and that they have not saturated in the marketplace.
3.	Select a company whose compensation plan is not like a traditional MLM.
In other words, you want to optimize your commissions, right? It’s much more motivating knowing that your commissions are not vivisected among many upline ‘directors’ and when all is said and done, you receive a small fraction of the full commission amount.

4. Choose an internet-attractive business.
Viral marketing is powerful. Use the gargantuan strength of internet marketing. It makes your work day a lot shorter and gives you time to play. When selecting a home based business opportunity, it’s crucial to your success that people are searching for the product or service you are offering online. Google some keywords that apply to your selected company or industry and see what’s out there.

5. Make sure the home based business opportunity provides good training.
There is nothing more frustrating for home based entrepreneurs than to invest the money to join a company and then be left to figure it out for yourself. Do your due diligence up front before jumping in. This is especially important if you are starting a home based business with limited funds and will need to rely on the mentoring of already successful people in your company. Be sure the team shares what they know!

7. Be prepared to work hard and be committed to doing whatever it takes to be a great success.
Massive Action. That’s what it takes. Do what the leaders do. Copy. Duplicate. Remember, you never get something for nothing. The testimonials you saw or heard are the result of following the leaders; as well: focus, living on purpose, commitment, and mindset. The first 90-120 days – are so important to any business, that having a clear plan for success and sticking to it will deliver your goals sooner rather than later.

8. Don’t be overwhelmed.
There are thousands of home based business opportunities out there. Narrow your field by knowing what programs you are passionate about. Define two or three industries that really resonate with you, and go after those opportunities. Then, make a commitment to one home based business and focus on that before you try to launch multiple businesses.

The business I chose is perfect for me: I am into Personal Development and Self-Achievement, which is exactly what Polaris Media Group does. Their training is unparalleled and so are their programs. The compensation plan gives me 4-figures per sale, net, and all is good! www.ProsperityPathCareers.com in case you are interested (!)

All the best to you in your search.

List the members of your fan club…your ‘encouragers’ as Kevin Carroll names in his lovely little book “Rules Of The Red Rubber Ball.” It’s those people that will always say, “why not?” “go for it!” or, “yeah, man, that’s great. You are great!” And who in this world does’t want to hear that daily?? I sure do!

When I share my visions and goals and dreams with my Fan Club – my TOES – Team Of Encouragers & Supporters — they are all all encouraging, and enthusiastic and totally all in for me. They are the ones who deserve to know what I know and what I expect.

When I share out loud to my TOES, not only have I put my scary intentions and goals out there verbally so that now my words are on the line and I must live up to them…I’ve spoken them to a powerful inner circle, my TOES, and so I know that even though I’ve really stuck it out there, I have the loving and joyous support of those who admire and love me. And that feels great. They make the journey a joy and a total win.

Who are your TOES? Share. Speak out loud. An intention without action is but a dream…

They are majestic, huge birds with a wing span of 18′ and fly with the precision of a stealth bomber — the way they just skim the surface about 3″ over the water, silently. Wings spread; no flapping for about a 1/2 mile. Graceful and powerful. And free. Pelicans are magnificent birds that embody a spirit of purity, of air, and of intuitive direction.

Watching them gives me peace and inspiration. I admire them and I think that I too am free. I choose freedom to organize my life just the way I want. What other ‘job’ would ever allow a one hour walk on the beach? What other possible working situation would allow for a concentrated time to just get your head together for the day? And even tune into a daily 15-minute energetic Wake Up To Success call with my colleagues all over the world? Yes, I have chosen this life and I am flying too!

Doesn’t it feel just wonderful when you receive a note or a verbal endorsement for a job well done? Or you receive a special note of thanks when you have made a difference in someone’s life, or assited another in accomplishing a certain thing? Or you have been complimented in an email on your new haircut, shoes, or purse? Those are KUDOS and they feel great. From Webster, “Compliment. Praise. Fame or renown resulting from an achievement”

Kudos are well worth saving. As human beings, our vast emotional pool might hand us a bad day for no particular reason. Still your day must continue and somehow you’ve got to pull yourself together, don’t you? Well go right to your Kudos File and read about how wonderful you are. Because you are; you have only momentarily forgotton that. That you make a difference in the world is a beautiful thing. Believe it. Look: everyone says so.

When I receive an email from an associate who tells me that because I offered a certain perspective on they way they were approaching a project, it made all the difference — it makes my day. I file that note in my Kudos File and when I have one of those bad days, it sure helps to elevate my outlook and mindset to go back and read it.

What coat are you wearing when you do your day? The coat of a CEO? The coat of a Summit Advisor? The coat of a Law of Attraction practioner who is attracting the visions and goals you anticipate achieving?

I ask because today, as I was in that never-never land between sleep and the alarm clock…I had a vision of me in a heavy coat of burden that was dragging me down. A big, oversized ugly heavy coat that was the coat of all my crap. And I walked, trudged rather, round-shoyuldered under the weight of that coat down a path and could never seem to get to the destination. Just trudging.

When I finally took it from my shoulders and let it drop on the ground, and walked away from it, I felt SO much lighter and freer. Then, I saw a beautiful cloak. It was shimmery and diaphanous and light and lovely. I draped it on my shoulders. It is my cloak of The Law of Attraction. Wearing it, for me, is Me becoming peaceful, focused, successful, firm, and outrageously attractive to my candidates.

I think of Jennifer Lopez in her movie, Enough – a battered young wife who finally could not take it anymore. She sought final revenge. She trained with a legendary martial arts coach. He taught her to fight. He taught her strategy, he taught her to visualize her goals, and visualize her strength when her murderous husband attacked her…he taught her to visualize him, too, speaking to her, coaching her in the very moment she needed him and her highest strength the very most. She summoned all her strength coupled with her resolve and vision for a peacefull life, and, of course, she was victorious.

What coat are you wearing?

One year ago, on Page 3 of my fresh new Beyond Freedom program, I was asked to design my “Best Day.” Go ahead, it instructed: write it. Hmmm…my best day. I hadn’t had one of those in a long time – forgot what a best day might feel like. But being a new enthusiastic student, I put pencil to the workbook page and started creating.

I created two: one including my (then) 15 year old son, and one without.

The Best Day with Max was a beloved white water river trip for a few days. The sun shining and the clear, crisp river water churning. I wrote that he, who never had experienced white water before, would be nervous and anxious in a healthy excited sort of way. And me, the veteran of 4 rivers would be eager to share the adventure and witness my boy expand his life experience and grow as a result. He would laugh, maybe get tossed out of the raft once or twice (I chose a Class 2 stretch of the American River, nothing too challenging) and just have a blast. We’d share. We’d camp. We’d make S’mores in the campfire. Max would watch out for me and the trip would be a real high for me and for Max.

I cried with wistful emotion when I wrote it. The reality was/is, Max is a normal, self-centered teen age boy who only knows the urban life: Wii, Nintendo, skateboarding, and biking around with his buddies. The last thing he’d ever choose to do would be to go away with ol’ Mom. And certainly not a white water trip where dirt, outside latrines, and camping are part of it…
The possibility of ever sharing a favorite trip like that was so remote when I wrote the page.

Dream on. A Best Day, indeed.

I am thrilled to share with you that my Best Day occurred! Yes! Last weekend, we were on the river. We took older (step) brother Marc and the three of us had a blast. Max really got into it, falling out and all! S’mores and all! Tent and all! Though he dare not admit it, he had a great weekend. I did too. I watched him dig in with his oar and pull hard as if it were life and death…I watched him jump joyously into the cold river for a quick swim. I also was stunned and thrilled that he decided to throw me into the river! Like a teen age girl when the teen age boy knocks her off her bike, she knows it’s true love. That’s how I felt.

In a most powerful way, I designed the day and I made it happen. I gave my Best Day the power of intention coupled with high emotional involvement and made it happen.

Whoo hoo! Good for me!

At home at 12:00 midnight when we finally got there, I jumped into the shower, my heart smiling. I did it!

And now, what is my second best day you may ask…? Well, that’s a bit trickier, methinks: a sunny drive up the coast in the cool convertible of a terrific man, stopping for a beach-side gorgeous lunch and a late afternoon glass of wine. Sun setting, we slowly drive back home.
Nice…it will be. It will be soon.

The Law of Attraction is part of my psyche. It will be soon.
