The pelicans in the morning when I am walking with ol’ Emerson (dog extraordinaire) daily on the beach have captivated my heart and admiration. They are majestic, huge birds with a wing span of 18′ and fly with the precision of a stealth bomber — the way they just skim the surface about 3″ over the water, silently. Wings spread; no flapping for about a 1/2 mile. Graceful and powerful. And free. Pelicans are magnificent birds that embody a spirit of purity, of air, and of intuitive direction.

Watching them gives me peace and inspiration. I admire them and I think that I too am free. I choose freedom to organize my life just the way I want. What other ‘job’ would ever allow a one hour walk on the beach? What other possible working situation would allow for a concentrated time to just get your head together for the day?
